Here's a sketch I did one weekend on the Greensward of people hanging out and enjoying the park. Someone recently said to me that all spring she'd gone to the Greensward and been depressed and anxious about the proposed retention basin and that now she can go and just be happy. That's exactly how I felt too when the plan was scrapped. I'm hoping to spend many hours over many years to come out celebrating on a blanket with the rest of Midtown.
Park Friends is the only non-profit group in Memphis dedicated to providing a community voice to all our public parks. We are a Midtown-based group that focus our volunteer efforts on Overton Park, the grand old park of the Memphis, but speak out on park issues facing the entire community. I'm the current Park Friends president, but this blog contains my personal thoughts about the park and park issues across Memphis. Any opinions given are my own and not board ratified positions.
Visit the Park Friends website at parkfriends.net for more information about the group.
