The CA reported that Wanda Halbert has vetoed the idea of having a skatepark in Glenview, saying that it doesn't fit with the historic neighborhood, even though the park already has a tennis court, community center, basketball court, playground, and baseball diamond. She also objects to spending money to build a skatepark when so many people need assistance, even though money set aside for capital projects cannot be used for such programs. It's a shame that the neighborhood is deprived of an opportunity for kids to have a positive place to spend after school hours.
Hopefully the neighborhood will stand up and request this benefit, and if not, I hope DPS will find a good spot for a skatepark soon. Memphis is behind the curve on offering this amenity.
